Vihti has launched an English-language website Helsinkiwest.aero. The new website is aimed at promoting the emerging ground handling services to businesses and showcasing business opportunities. The site will also be useful for pilots operating from the airport and for pilots arriving at Nummela. The website has been produced by the municipality of Vihti together with the Nummela Airport Association.

Nummela Airport - now marketed to the world as Helsinki West - is one of the fastest growing and developing airports in Finland after the closure of Malmi Airport. For example, in autumn 2021, Nummela became the first airport in the world to introduce an automatic airport monitoring system that detects and warns of obstacles on the runway.

"Nummela has the potential and resources to develop green, digital and electronic aviation. Our active aviation sector allows for real-world testing of new technologies after their preliminary testing phases. We can be a development platform for innovative solutions at small airports," says Tom Arppe, chairman of the Nummela Airport Association.

"We also aim to advance the accessibility of Vihti and the metropolitan area on an international level. The airport offers flying tourists a route to major destinations in Western Uusimaa. Likewise, in the near future, Nummela will be accessible to Europe, either for work or leisure," Arppe continues.

"In line with the municipal strategy, we want to be pioneers in accessibility in Vihti, and the airport in particular offers interesting opportunities as digital aviation develops. We are delighted with the way Nummela Airport is being actively developed by the association and I see that Nummela Airport has all it takes to become a pioneer in aviation technology. We warmly welcome aviators and aviation companies to Vihti," says Erkki Eerola, Mayor of Vihti municipality.
